Supporting Staff

A Note from the Executive Director

One of the absolute best aspects of my job is that I receive so many great suggestions from all of you about how we can better serve you.  It is so nice to open up an email in which someone has said, “Have you ever thought about this as an idea for a program?” or “You know what would be really helpful?”  So many of the programs and services that we offer have been built upon your ideas.  It is actually quite exciting to know that our members are out there always thinking about what would help their communities, their colleagues and themselves.  So, along those lines, I wanted to let you know we have the following programs coming up – all as a result of your ideas!  On March 10th we are reviving our IT Network Group and meeting on Discord to discuss IT successes and challenges.  On April 6th we start a six part Construction Series which will run through July 26th and cover all aspects of library building and renovation projects.  The first in the series is Building Projects 101:  Overview Session.  On April 7th we are kicking off our first ever Safety and Security Network Group meeting via zoom.  Here’s an opportunity for security staff from our libraries to share ideas and experiences.  Because we are always being asked about programs that offer tech skills for library staff, we have put together five different programs for the coming months.  We’ve got you covered starting with today's Cyber Security for ALL Staff,  Microsoft Acct (with OneDrive and Office 365) on March 2nd, Windows 11 Upgrade on May 12th, Enhancing Collaboration with Microsoft Teams on June 2nd and ending with Google Products:  An Overview on June 14th.  And, lastly for now, we will be starting a Discord group for those working in our smallest libraries.  Together we are maximizing library potential.  Have a great week!

Betsy

NEO-RLS Announcements

NEW LOOK TO ACCOUNT CREATION PAGE ON WEBSITE
We have modified the Account Creation page on our website to include our new individual memberships for retirees, unemployed, MLIS students, Out of NEO-RLS Region/Ohio participants and others.  When you go to create a NEO-RLS account after clicking on Login and No Login? Start Here, you will be directed to a new Join Us! Page.  If you are currently working in a NEO-RLS library that is a member, you will still select the “I work in a library in the NEO-RLS Region” option and proceed from there.  All of the new options are listed and have their own Create Account buttons.  Please contact us if you have questions.
NEO-RLS INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIPS ARE HERE!
Thanks for your patience as we worked to bring you the option of new individual memberships for specific categories of members (Retiree, Unemployed, Leave of Absence, Outside the NEO-RLS region).  We are excited to tell you that the Individual memberships are now available.   Check out the Membership tab on the website for more information or contact Betsy Lantz with questions.  We look forward to welcoming our new individual members and to providing those interested in joining with a low cost way to participate in our continuing education opportunities.  Join us today!
2022 NEO-RLS STATEWIDE SALARY SURVEY COMING MARCH 1ST
We invite libraries throughout the state to participate in our 2022 Statewide Salary Survey.  The Survey is a comprehensive salary and benefits survey.  Although originally scheduled for 2023, we are doing the survey again this year because we know the employment environment has changed immensely since last year and we want you to have access to the most current data.  The survey will be a cost-sharing project once again and libraries will be receiving further information about the survey via email in the next two weeks.  There is no cost for submitting data so we hope to have even more than the 162 participants from last year!  Your participation enables us to provide the libraries in Ohio with a clear compensation picture.  Please contact Betsy Lantz or Debbie Blair if you have questions or are interested in participating.

Authors Available

Ohio University Press authors are available for programming that your library might like to plan during National Library Week, which happens to take place during National Poetry Month. Feel free to contact Jeff Kallet to schedule an author and to get other ideas, including children’s authors, topics in history and politics, memoirs, and more. if you have an interest in scheduling a talk or reading, continue reading for some ideas, beginning with a few poets (who can be scheduled any time during April should it be more convenient.)
