Using the Salary Survey

"Staff wages were evaluated using the survey results distributed in 2021. To make our wages more competitive, our library board decided to create a new wage scale. We have seen a difference in retention already.
Thank you. - Melissa Marolt, Perry County District Library"

A Note From the Executive Director

One of the things on my To Do list since I started at NEO-RLS in 2016 was to offer something more for those working in information technology.  We have had the emerging tech side of things covered in the past few years but have been weaker in terms of the straight library IT side of things.  Our first efforts to offer more began with a few webinars followed by the recent re-activation of our IT Network Group using Discord.  We are now set to expand upon those efforts by offering a one-day NEO-RLS/OPLIN Technology Conference on October 25, 2022 which we hope will fill a variety of needs related to our library tech environments.  The day will begin with our Keynote Speaker, David Seidl, Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio.  Prior to his tenure at Miami he was Senior Director of Campus Technology Services and Director of Information Security, both for the University of Notre Dame.  David specializes in strategic planning and architecture, enterprise risk management and infrastructure management, also stressing the importance of communication, education and staff development.  He will be speaking on cybersecurity and how it relates to all types and sizes of libraries.  Breakouts for the day will be divided into three different tracks: Administration (covering topics such as how to recruit next-gen IT staff, technology training needed for staff and how to get staff onboard), IT (covering topics such as technology management solutions, building security resilience into operations and Microsoft Office consulting for IT staff), and Staff (with topics such as tech literacy for patrons, bookmobile loaning of laptops and printing, and telehealth booths).  We will also be opening up a Call for Posters with an award for the Best Poster.  Our day will close with a talk on library technology trends and innovations.  Mark your calendars for October 25th and keep an eye open for registration details to come.  We hope you will join us for the day.  Together we are maximizing library potential.  Have a great rest of your week!

Betsy

From the State Library

Summer library programs (SLP) are starting up all around Ohio. The State Library asks all Ohio public libraries to report on their SLP at program’s end. Your participation in the 2022 Ohio Summer Library Program Evaluation will help the State Library, Regional Library Systems, suppliers of statewide incentives, and the Collaborative Summer Library Program to provide the most useful resources and support to Ohio’s libraries.  Does your library, archive, or museum have a digital or special collection you’d like to add to the Digital Public Library of America? Would you like up to $4999 to do it?
The State Library of Ohio’s Metadata Mini-Grant program is back for a third round, and applications are open until July 13th.
Register for our informational webinar scheduled for Wednesday June 22nd at 10am to get all of your grant questions answered.
