Protect Yourself and Your Library

A Note from the Continuing Education Coordinator

We understand that library staff, managers, and administration are currently dealing with staff shortages, an influx of new hires, and burnout. As a result, combing through nearly 300 archived webinars to find what you need is not always feasible. That is why over the past few months, the NEO-RLS staff have been working to create archived webinar bundles highlighting topics that are important to our members. Today, I am happy to announce that the first two bundles are now available and there are more coming soon! The New Hire Bundle and the Positive, Proactive, & Prepared: Staff Development Week 2021 Bundle can now be accessed on the Archived Webinar Bundles page of the NEO-RLS website. When you click the individual boxes, you will get a link to Learn More, which will take you to a printable PDF that lists the archived webinars for that bundle. You can register for each webinar directly from the PDF or print it as a guide or for distribution to library staff. We encourage feedback and suggestions regarding these new bundles. If there are any specific topics or tracks that you would like to see added or if you have any other comments or questions, please contact Ragan Snead or Melissa Lattanzi.  Together we are maximizing library potential. Have a great day!

NEO-RLS will be distributing a new 2022 statewide Salary Survey beginning March 1, 2022 with results available beginning June 1st.  We know the hiring and retention of library employees is on everyone’s minds with the employment marker in great flux.  As a result, we want you to be able to draw upon the most current salary and benefit data available.  The Salary Survey has been revised based on participant questions and feedback and will have augmented instructions, all in an effort to make input easier and faster.  Further details will be coming out in the next several weeks.

From The State Library

The Ohio Department of Health, in collaboration with the State Library of Ohio, is again offering PPE at no charge to local libraries to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 among library visitors and staff. The State of Ohio purchased the PPE with federal CARES Act funds for the purpose of responding to the public health emergency with respect to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). The State Library does not administer the survey or distribute the PPE.

$89 million available in Summer Learning and Afterschool Opportunities Grant
The Department of Education is seeking proposals for a share of the $89 million Summer Learning and Afterschool Opportunities Grant available for school and community-based partners that provide out-of-school time services. To be eligible, libraries and other community-based organizations must partner with a local education agency (LEA; i.e. school board).
The Greater Cleveland Aquarium is our newest Summer Library Program partner. For summer 2022, Ohio public libraries may book a specially discounted virtual program developed by the Aquarium’s education staff especially for libraries. The Aquarium’s 45-minute “Oceans of Possibilities” virtual program is customizable for early literacy, children, teen, or adult audiences and accommodates up to 99 individual logins.
