Don't Miss It!

A Note from the Executive Director

At NEO-RLS we had been venturing back into the realm of in-person events, only to be brought up short due to increasing COVID numbers, new mask guidelines from the CDC and additional information regarding the efficacy of vaccinations.  We have also been listening to what libraries are doing with regard to masks and programming.  As a result, we will be continuing with our online options for the remainder of 2021 in order to provide you with a safe, hopefully stress-free, manner of participating in continuing education.  Last week while on vacation, I encountered a sign at the Old Jail in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, which seemed to sum everything up well in terms of everyone doing their best to continue serving their constituents. The sign read as follows:

Welcome to the Old Jail
We are very sorry….
We can’t do anything about the weather.
We can’t do anything about the pandemic.
We can’t do anything about masks.
We can’t do anything about rules.
But we can be nice.
If you can be nice, please come in.
If you can’t be nice, come another time when you feel better.
Have a pleasant day.

Thanks for your continuing participation and enjoy your week!  Together we are maximizing library potential.

From the State Library

The State Library of Ohio and OhioNET are excited to announce the 3rd installment in the Critical Conversation Series. Sustainable Thinking: What the World Needs Now with Rebekkah Smith Aldrich.  The online event will be held September 8 at 2 p.m. and a recording will be shared with those who cannot attend live. The presentation is geared toward Ohio library staff of all levels and working at all library types.
A growing number of Ohio public libraries participate in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) to provide afterschool meals to children and teens at the library.
Your library is eligible to participate and offer a daily meal or snack to children and teens during the 2021-22 school year, paid for by federal funds!
The need for this program has never been greater.
The pandemic has driven a sharp increase in economic instability and food insecurity. Many families do not know how to access free meals for children who may not participate in formal afterschool programs.
