A Note from the Chair of the NEO-RLS Technology Committee

This last year, the NEO-RLS Technology Committee has been busy working to create a technology strategic plan for NEO-RLS while continuing to advise on the use of technology for members services and benefit.

The committee’s goal to create a technology strategic plan culminated in the adoption of the NEO-RLS Technology Plan by the Board of Trustees on May 18, 2021.  The Technology Plan outlines NEO-RLS’s existing technology environment and establishes its ongoing assessment to ensure its ability to work in tandem with the organizational goals and strategic plan.  Furthermore, the Technology Plan establishes goals and objectives to introduce current and future technology trends and ensure the technology infrastructure supports programming and services for members.  The plan will continue to be reviewed by the Technology Committee biannually.

The committee’s efforts toward the second goal focused on the Emerging Technology Kits.  A survey was designed and distributed to members to gain insight into how the kits can meet members’ current and future needs.  Additionally, the committee reviewed the Emerging Technology Kits fee structure and evaluation form. The committee updated the evaluation form to ask for information on how the loaning library used the kits.  NEO-RLS will use this information to promote the kits and inspire other libraries by highlighting their varied use.

This next year, the Technology Committee will continue to be a resource to NEO-RLS through advising on potential uses of technology and implementation of the new Technology Plan.  We invite you to join us as together we are maximizing library potential.

2020-2021 Technology Committee Members: Trent Ross, Chair (Rocky River Public Library), Tonya Briggs (Cleveland Public Library), Kalyn Kappelman (Cuyahoga County Public Library), CJ Lynce (Westlake Porter Public Library), Amy Switzer (Shaker Heights Public Library).
