Emerging Technology Symposium

A Note from the Executive Director

As I was thinking about what to write about for today, I recalled my wonder at how “the library” isn’t a “one size fits all” institution although so many people make the assumption that it is.  Our communities are so varied and, as we all know, this variance demands different approaches with regard to services.  While we have common best practices, the way they are implemented may differ quite a lot.  As we turn to each other in the midst of the pandemic for guidance and advice, that guidance and advice is not always as helpful as we might imagine, but for the very best of reasons - we are staying true to our desire to serve our own communities well.  However, reaching out to colleagues for encouragement and support can be incredibly helpful and provide affirmation of the decisions we are making.  We have no real idea of the long-term customer behavior changes that the pandemic may leave us with but the methods that have been put into place to connect with colleagues virtually, to motivate staff working remotely, to heighten our creativity and to remain flexible in our approach to our communities will serve us in good stead as we continue to move forward.  If you haven’t already done so, look for a Network meeting of interest to you and start connecting.  Hang in there and stay well!
