Don't Miss this!

A Note from the Executive Director, Betsy Lantz

We all know how important it is to evaluate and re-evaluate what it is we do, why we do what we do, and how we do what we do.  It’s important because it helps us make certain we are working effectively and efficiently and in the best interests of our communities.  Today the NEO-RLS staff participated in a brainstorming session with Chad Willett in order to think about what else we can do to support all of you while working in our new virtual environment.  We were encouraged to ask the three following questions – Why?  What if? and How?  Doing so helped us look beyond where we are at the moment and to consider how we might change things up in the near future.  One of our ideas until we can return to face-to-face events was to offer a livestreamed speaker for a change of pace from the standard Zoom meetings and webinars.  We also took a new look at our vendors and how we might be able to partner with them in a more mutually beneficial manner.  My main point however, is that despite the circumstances, in one short hour we were able to come up with some great ideas!  Evaluating where you are and what you are doing can be time-consuming but it can also be incredibly energizing and lead you to the next best idea.  We see this all of the time in the libraries in our region and in libraries throughout the world.  Whether it’s drones delivering books to kids in Virginia or grills being loaned out by libraries in Finland, whenever I look around I find interesting, meaningful and exciting developments brought about by the dedicated people working in libraries.  Together we are maximizing library potential!  Stay well and have a great week!
