From the State Library of Ohio

The Reimagining School Readiness workshop provides an overview of both practical research about how to support school readiness, and a toolkit with resources created for library staff to help families prepare children from birth to 8 years for success in school and in life.

Through an interactive virtual presentation with hands-on activities, this training session will introduce library staff to the toolkit contents.

The workshop topics include:

  • key findings from current cognitive and developmental psychology research
  • the implications of those findings for library staff’s daily work
  • practical ready-to-implement ideas for activities
  • resources for staff training and for parents/caregivers

This training session is for library staff who work with children from birth to 8 years and their families.

Registration and more information can be found on the State Library of Ohio’s website.

National Summer Learning Association annual conference, coming up October 24-26 in Washington DC at the Mayflower Hotel. This conference promises to explore what it takes to promote equity, create opportunity and build community through summer learning programs.

Libraries are such an important part of the universe of summer learning. As with many other focus areas with national organizations and conferences (early childhood, family engagement, afterschool, etc.), libraries are involved and relevant, and librarians benefit from being part of the conversation, learning from peers in other fields, and representing our profession to these related sectors. If your library has the capacity to send someone to a national conference, this is one to consider. Registration is $800 plus lodging and travel.
