Virtual Performers' Showcase
Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at 10 am
Join us as we host 3 - 4 performers to showcase their skills both virtual and beyond!

Each performer will share a 10-15 minute example of their performance to give the flavor of their work and then be available for any questions you may have afterward. This is meant to both showcase what each performer can offer libraries in a virtual environment and also what they might be able to offer you in the future!  Click HERE for more information.

Antiracist Collection Development & Programming for Middle School & High School Youth
Wednesday, July 29, 3:00 pm

Right now, we are a profession called to lead the charge for antiracist work. It’s time for listening, reflecting, and thoughtful action. If you are a BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color), how are you supporting the antiracist work of your white colleagues without doing all the heavy lifting on your own? If you are white, how are you holding yourself and your colleagues accountable to be transparently antiracist in your collection development and programming? Who are you listening to and learning from to improve your antiracist practice? Attendees will refresh their toolboxes to inspire their communities to be agents of positive change. Presenter Adrienne Almeida is the Director of Middle School and Upper School Library Services at Friends Seminary in New York City.  Click HERE for more information.

News Literacy Instruction Workshop for Ohio Librarians

There has never been more information (and misinformation!) available to library users. Teaching news media literacy has never been more challenging.

But the News Literacy Instruction Workshop for Ohio Librarians is here to help!

The workshop is free but space is limited! Register here: https://forms.gle/AP2VXahSas1pqWfq7

This online workshop will consist of a series of modules to be completed on your own beginning September 9th and two live sessions on September 16th and 21st.

Thanks to a grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), awarded by the State Library of Ohio, the workshop will be offered free of charge to Ohio librarians, but space is limited. Participants will be asked to answer pre- and post-workshop surveys, and may be asked to provide a sample artifact of news media literacy practice (activity, assignment, lesson plan, slide deck, etc.) they are using now, and to submit a new or revised artifact after the workshop to help us assess the impact of the workshop and improve future workshops.

This workshop is being offered through the cooperation of Cleveland State University’s Michael Schwartz Library and The University of Akron University Libraries with news media literacy expert Michael Spikes of Northwestern University.

Questions can be directed to a.goodsett@csu.edu or mmonaco@uakron.edu
